The United States is about to lose our 100,000th person to the coronavirus. We may try to shield ourselves from the terror at our doorstep by distracting ourselves with any number of follies, but our children don't know how to deal with the trauma of seeing their lives changed so drastically.
We've all heard stories of children who are afraid to come out of their bedrooms as a new version of "Stranger Danger," terrifies them. We've heard stories of children who can't sleep at night because they hear people talking and catch glimpses of the news.
Our children know that something is very wrong. Our children are afraid. Oh, sure, so are we, but the difference is that adults can rely on science and medical experts to calm their fears. Our children are listening. They need a way to feel safe, again.
Hans Helps: A Coronavirus/COVID-19 Story teaches children to help stop the spread of the virus. Empowering children to help keep themselves and their families safe gives children something to do. Teaching children to take action when they're afraid builds courage and resiliency and teaching them to have something to look forward to builds hope.
Parents have been writing us thank you notes, saying that their children are willing to wash their hands and follow family rules after reading our children's book. Their children needed something to help them understand the virus at their level.
This book helps.
